    Display settings lockout

I have been trying to clean up my employer's computer. A particularly persistent unsolicited program (Spysherrif), has installed a desktop background picture with a message saying there is spy ware on the computer. When I go to the display properties and select the Desktop tab, it is not possible to change the background or browse. Selecting the Theme tab, I find that there is a "Modified Theme" that can not be deleted, although you can select other themes. How can I activate the background selection process.

Everett J. Clar - Welcome to the Board :)

Your employer's computer is most likely infested with spyware/adware/possible trojans, etc.

For a start download, update and run Spybot and Ad-Aware SE through Quicklinks in my signature and delete all they find.

Run an online virus scan through Quicklinks in my signature.

Then download HijackThis (through Quicklinks), save it to a folder on the hard drive, e.g. C:\HJT - not to the desktop or a temporary folder. Run it and post the log here.

In the meantime I have moved your thread to the Removing Spyware and Viruses forum with title edit.
