My disk has two partitions; a FAT partition and an NTFS partition containing XP.

Using Linux from a live-boot CD, I can read and write the FAT partition but can only read the NTFS partition. With XP's computer management console, I can see the small FAT partition (see screen shot) but can't find a way to access it .

I'd like to be able to read files with XP that linux leaves on the FAT partition. Is there a way to do this?

    XP Pro, factory installed
    512MB Mem

The drive doesn't show in explorer? There may be a 3rd party program running in the background that prevents you from seeing/accessing it. Dell most likely uses it for troubleshooting and/or reinstallation of windows. Possibly a program like startuplist1521.zip or even better, autoruns would reveal the program to stop so you can see your hidden partition. Be careful not to endanger any recovery software.

My HP laptop has a similar partition which also does not show up in WE - according to the manual .....

Disk Management shows it as EISA configuration, too - could not find anything that made real sense by Googling that.

I bet that if a Ghost Image of that partition is created, the contents can be viewed in Ghost Explorer.

Partition Magic has an option to hide and un-hide partitions. Never used that option, but it might help.
