I'm familiar with Task Manager and use it to manage my PC's activities and watch for anomalies. I still reboot my PC routinely, to keep XP running most efficiently. One of the little oddities I often get I call a "camera" for lack of better description. After using my PC awhile, when I launch my Browser (IE6) I get a tiny blue square (approx. 10 px sq.) in the centre of the browser screen. It disappears from the browser window if I change window size or click on the square and then click elsewhere - but when I minimize the window I have the "camera" on my desktop.

When it first appears on the desktop (as per above) it is the little grid, but when I click and drag it on my desktop it becomes the camera. Here's a sceen capture of the "camera ".

I have monitored processes in Task Manager before and after it's appearance and have detected no new process. Does anyone have an idea of what it is??

NOTE: I use NAV 2004 Pro and Ad-AWARE 6Pro (with LiveUpdates) quite fastidiously.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Sorry I can't help directly since that is a new one on me but there are much better tools for watching system activity. Some excellent and free ones are available for download from Sysinternals.com

    Thanks Newt.

I've obtained a few of the tools from Sysinternals (Autoruns & Process Explorer). They are definitely useful, but haven't shed any more light on THIS problem - I cannot connect any unexplained processes or threads to it. And wouldn't you know it, the problem has proliferated!! I now get multiple "cameras" showing up on my desktop over the course of the day. And their states change - the little block in the top that reminds me of a viewfinder sometimes has a text letter in it, and sometimes a dividing line.

Weird! As this reminds me so of a camera, I would like to be rid of it. (Right now only rebooting does so.) Does anyone out there know something 'bout it, or have a thought?

I suggest you read this post and post a HijackThis log in that forum.
