A friend of mine told me, that he was doing some video editing, when he finished he restarted the pc, and during the boot process, when it should start displaying the desktop, it restarts again. This is happening all the time, and he is unable to reach the desktop.

Do you have any idea what the problem might be from the above symptom ?

Do you think it's hardware or software related ?

    Thanks

No information enough but i think you should try to boot on save mode and see if you can logon. Search for the logs and find what is wrong.
Press F8 on start before BIOS screen..

In case you are not able to get into Safe Mode (should try that first) and you have XP w SP2, you will have an option after tapping F8 for Safe Mode, to "Disable automatic restarts on system failure ". Click that. You will then probably get a blue screen but will be able to see the error message, and post that. Let us know what works/doesn't.
