every so often i get the bsod on usbport.sys and running out of things to try. version i have in the system32/drivers folder is 5.1.2600.2180 dated 8/3/04.

only usb used is through the board itself. board is only a few months old and there are no updates for the bios. main devices hocked using usb are a canon i960 printer and an epson 1650 prefection scanner and apc 1000va ups.

have run 2 different memory testers - memory passes, h.d. passes, board and processor pass. all tests pass even over period of time in a loop.

any thoughts help would be greatly appreciated.

If you have an event log entry that gives details, please post that. Otherwise, please post any additional info from the BSOD screen.

i looked at the log file and theres nothing there that indicates the usbport.sys failure or bsod. only thing is "computer has rebooted because of bug check ". thats it.

the problem i know will occur again so will write more info down and repost.

addr f7d91cff base at f7d8a000 date stamp 41107d62

I suspect the only way this one will get properly diagnosed and fixed is with a dump of the error details and an expert eye to make sense of the dump.

For a while we had a guru who could do that be he seems to have gone missing so probably your best bet is a support call with Microsoft. At worst it will cost you a few bucks.

ive cleared all my logs in event viewer and from this point on i will keep track of the exact time and date so i can see if the logs show anything unusual. individually have run diags on all components and they pass. dont really relish rebuilding this machine. main machine and is a pain to do a complete redo. do not want to use my image cuz it probably has the same problem.

thanks newt will write back if i find anything.
