    Windows Explorer Search

What would all of a sudden cause the search function of Explorer stop working?

Possibly a corrupted file - suggest you run System File Checker ....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow noting the space before the forward slash / and have your XP CD handy. SFC will run and exit without any closing dialogue. To see which files, if any, were replaced look in Event Viewer.

Edit: Now know this thread applies to Me and not to XP

What happens when you try to search?

Do you have the same problems when you click on Start->Search?

    Windows Explorer Search

Either way I try to search, using search on the explorer window or start/search, nothing happens. You click and nothing happens.

I don't know and I don't have access to a Me PC to try.

Which OS are you running? - your post is in the XP forum.

In that case I have moved your thread to the Me forum.

As a workaround I suggest your friend downloads AgentRansack - freeware - which is vastly superior to the Windows search engine.
