    WordPerfect 6.1 (Win) Stopped Working

I know, I know - who wants to be using this old program?

Well, my wife loves it and doesn't like the latest WP which has the 'industry standard' (ie Word) interface.

Unfortunately WP61 (Win), it has suddenly stopped working: "SHWINB20.DLL caused a general protection fault... " etc, etc.

She's using WinXP SP2 on a Toshiba laptop with adequate RAM and adequate HD space. In any case, WP61 was working fine until a short while ago with the same operating system. Possibly one of the last month-or-so's Windows updates caused the problem, or possibly it was one or another of other program updates, or maybe something else entirely. I do know that WP61 works fine if the laptop is started in Protected mode.

I think I can sort-of work out the long-winded diagnostic procedure necessary to diagnose the offending driver, or whatever - but I'm wondering if someone out there can think of a 'most likely' scenario, or two, or three, which would enable me to short-cut the process?

I'd be grateful for any help - especially as I've now been banned (more or less) from 'messing with' her computer (ie updating Windows, anti-spyware stuff, cleaning and defragging hard drive, etc)...

Everything I can find about SHWINB20.DLL problems with WP indicates it's a Logitech mouse driver problem.

If you have a Logitech mouse, try updating the drivers.

Thanks Miz - I read that, too. But the mouse has been the same for ever (and anyway, its not that brand), so it's unlikely to be the problem.

It has occurred to me it might be related to a printer change. The next time I can sneak up on her computer I might try changing the default printer to an old one and see if that helps...

Any other ideas will be most welcome...

PS - I suspect that, strictly speaking, this should have been posted onto a 'third party software' forum - apologies to moderators. But now I don't want to commit the cardinal sin of multiple posts...

    Solved!

It was the new default printer...
