I am using Windows XP. I have 2 hard drives, one I store all my pictures and music on. Listed in the start menu is "My Pictures" and "My Music ". However, both of these target destinations are on the C drive.
Is it possible and if so how, to change the target folder for these links? Actually I have some pics and music stored on both drives, is it possible when you hover your mouse over them that they can expand and let you select which drive you want to go to that folder on?

A quich solution is to create a desktop shortcut to the D:\ picture folder and then drag it to the start menu.

Relocate My Documents and other *special* folders

In order to keep your system partition lean and safeguard your documents, it's a good idea to relocate the folder. You can also relocate Favorites and others for safe-keeping - even use a removable drive.

First, download Tweak UI for Win9x/ME/2000 or Tweak UI for WinXP. For this application, the older version 1.33 will work in Windows 2000.

Create your new folder in the location that you desire. You can name it whatever you like. Now open Tweak UI and find the "Special Folders" section. Select the My Documents folder and then "Change location ". Click Yes on the warning and browse to your new folder.

Now copy all of the contents of the old My Documents folder to the new folder. Restart the PC. Test the folder. If it's OK, you can safely delete the old one.

    Steve-

I just want to move the Favorites Folder to a memory stick to share between machines. Tweak UI wil happliy let me move it to another drive, even Network drives, but it greys out the OK when I select a removable drive - i.e. a 1 GB memory stick - any ideas? Does Windows KNOW it will be unhappy if it boots and there is no E: drive so it won't take the chance?

I would just copy and paste the favorites from and too each machine.

    Probably.

    Steve,

Just for the record, TweakUI 1.33 works with XP, too, and the two, 1.33 and 2.10 (XP), work very well together. As it happens, each provides a couple of tweaks in XP that the other doesn't.

Microsoft's caveat on the PowerToys page about uninstalling an older version before installing the newer one doesn't apply to TweakUI, but the note about having SP1 installed (to use 2.10) does.

I have the non-classic Start menu display. When I click on the Start button
I get a list on the top right side with My Documents, My Pictures, My Music, Favourites etc. My music is stored in another place other than the default place in My Documents. My music is on C drive in a folder of it's own. Location in properties is listed as C:\ Can I change the location of the My Music default location, to go to the location my music is actually stored? Will this muck anything up? I'm thinking not.

Right now the 'My Music' displayed on the Start button is located
C:\Documents and Settings\user name\My Documents can i just change it to
    C:\ ?

    I have Home edition XP SP2 .

    Thanks. :)

Can you spoof windows XP into accepting a Mapped network drive to store OE and My documents?
when you try to pick a target on a mapped drive, it stays greyed out, same for OE`s message store .

Or you could do something like this. Hope it works. ( the Attachment that is )

It just involves drag-n-Droping SHORTCUTS only.

As I you see I also have made various folder and Drag-n-Droped shortcuts into them

This way it does not involve MOVING anything.

I forgot something and just checked.

The new folders need to be created on the Desktop

    RightClick-new-folder.

Then they can be drag-n-dropped into the Startup folder and things added to them there.
