    Rt-click any blank screen area (not an icon) and choose properties. Go to the 'Themes' tab and save your desktop as a theme. the pull-down memu enables you to return to the present desktop anytime you wish.

    Hi sneetchers,

    sparrow beat me to it!

    ....and if you have themes installed, is much easier than what's below...

    ==

    if you don't have themes:

    the answer depends upon what sort of wallpaper you are using! Some wallpapers are patterns which are supplied with Windows, you don't have to save these

    but if you have chosen a picture or a web page and done "set as background" then it's a bit different.

    Start>Settings>Control Panel : double-click "Display Properties ", and select the "background" tab like this;

    the upper entries in the list (Triangles, Waves and above) are easy, they are patterns supplied with Windows, you don't have to save them specially

    but if you see "Internet Explorer Wallpaper" highlighted, make a copy of this file:
    C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Internet Explorer Wallpaper.bmp
    ...to somewhere safe.

    ==

    here's something you can always do:

    if you press the "PrintScreen" key it takes a "snapshot" of whatever is on your monitor

    then do Start>Accessories>Paint - from Paint's Edit menu choose Paste (you may have to say "yes" if it asks "do you want the bitmap enlarged "...)

    - then just save this image somewhere handy.

    If you save it as a bitmap into your WINDOWS folder, you will then be able to find it afterwards in the list of wallpapers - so you can choose it as and when you wish.

    (if you have a program like Photoshop or PaintShopPro, these can do the same thing as Paint only a lot better)

    hope this helps

    best wishes, HJ

    C:\Program Files\Plus!\Themes

    If your windows is installed to a drive other than C, change the drive letter accordingly.
