My monitor just failed to work properly today. I turned my desktop on and nothing came out of my screen. It's turned on and properly hooked up to my tower. I tried rebooting the system and heard 3 long beeps on my system. I removed and put back the video card but it still won't work. Any idea why my pc's beeping and my monitor's not showing any picture?

The beeps are "codes" to the solution. Any idea what BIOS you're using? Or if it's a name brand pc, who made it?

    Hi Steve!

I don't know what BIOS I am using and it's not a brand named pc. I just had someone assemble it for me back in 2001. Any other information I can supply other than these? I still don't have any luck fixing it.

    Hello gurlnpink,

FYI: To find out your system info when you get the system working, download Everest Home Edition: http://www.lavalys.com/products.php?lang=en

Beep codes for various BIOS builds:
    http://www.computerhope.com/beep.htm#04

I understand that you can't access the system right now, but if there is some written dicumentation on your system, the BIOS build may be somewhere in there.

    Regards - Charles

Not with all bios but it is likely that the three beeps denote either video or ram problems.

Pull your video card back out and clean the contacts. Also pull your memory sticks and clean the contacts. Reseat em all and give it a shot. If you have another video card available and the above dosen't help, try the other card.

There seems to be only one type of "3 long beeps" error. That is a keyboard error. Reseat the keyboard connection or test using a different keyboard.

Is it a USB keyboard? Test using a PS/2 keyboard.

If it is a USB keyboard, I would get a new CMOS battery. Check the number printed on the battery or take it with you to find the replacement. The BIOS may be losing it's settings if a USB keyboard needs to enabled.

    Jay, :D don't worry about "oops ".
The 3 long beeps seem to be tied to an IBM BIOS. It may be right, depending on the BIOS. I could not find any other references to 3 long beeps.

    Hope it works

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I will try each one and will let you know which one works. :D
