Today my Outlook Express emails started appearing in tiny windows near the lower left of my screen. Whether I create a new email or open one I've received, it opens in these tiny windows at the lower left. It was fine (opening a much larger window) till today. The window is about 2 inches square.

It started about the same time I had some IE memory problems. I've always had periodic IE memory problems. It may beep at me instead of doing what I ask, or a window doesn't open. When I restart it, it's lost my toolbar settings and I have to set them up again. I'm assuming the two are related, but this is the first time it's affected anything other than IE.

How do I get normal-sized Outlook Express windows again?

I'm using XP SP2 with auto update on. IE is 6. OE is 6.

When you opened a new email window, drag it in the right position, and resize it to the size you want, then close it.

It should remember the size & position of the window.

I've tried that. It doesn't help.

Try holding the ALT or Shift key while dragging to the new size.

Steve's idea should fix things. If not, we probably need to help you repair whatever isn't right with the system.

If you want to do that, please explain I had some IE memory problems. Is it only the symptoms you mention or can you tell us more detail?

    Wow, the alt-drag worked! Thanks!

Do my IE problems indicate there's a problem with my system? I wondered if everyone had the same IE problems. Its the only application I regularly have problems with.

The obvious symptom is that I lose my toolbar settings. Even though the toolbars are locked, I have to unlock them, add back any toolbars that have disappeared (e.g. Google, Alexa, RoboForm), reposition them, and lock the toolbar again.

Before the toolbars settings disappear I always notice what I've interpreted as memory problems. The symptoms are less memorable than with the toolbars, but I believe typically IE might beep when I tried to do something like open a window (and the window wouldn't open). Or perhaps just not open the window and not beep.

I regularly get Windows out of virtual memory messages, event though I've maxed out my machine at 512 MB RAM.
