I have seen on some forums and heard from people that they have had some problems with NSW 2005 install so I decided to do some experiments on the drive that I use for beta testing. What I have on my beta test drive is just the software I use most often. It's only 5gig so it's easy to image (only one DVD).

If it's of interest to anyone here are a few of the major problems I found. Remember that I run 2000, not XP.

    1) If you are already running a firewall, get rid of it. I would assume that would include disableing the built in firewall on XP but can't prove. NSW itsself will install fine along with antivirus. However, when you try to enable/install internet security your system is fried. Seems that the two firewalls will conflict. This is at least the case with Sygate. If you run into this problem on 2000 booting to last known good configuration will get you out of it. I would figure that a restore point would do the same for XP. Symptom is when booting you will get the dreaded (2000) screen of a failure... If this is the first time you have seen this screen reboot, etc..

    2) If you are running Spybot with Teatimer enabled, turn it off. I saw at least two cases of teatimer asking for permission to change the registry AFTER the restart has already started. Of course, then it's too late.

Please note that these problems only happened after SW was up and running fine and tried to enable internet security.

I don't know if this info will be of any use to anyone but figured I'd throw out what I've found.

It certainly should help. The double firewall thing is the sort of gotcha that can easily bite a user.
