My computer freezes immediately I disconnect from the internet whether I am in Internet Explorer or Outlook at the time and needs a hard reboot. It’s ok the first time I disconnect but not thereafter. I have two ISPs and the same happens with both connections. The disconnection actually does take place though.

I have removed and reinstalled the email account and the dial up connection. I have also tried closing Agnitum firewall but nothing helps.

I have no problem making the connection and since I usually use a cable broadband connection which is connected 24/7 I don’t know how long the problem has existed.

Dell Inspiron 1.8mb processor, 512 mb RAM, Windows XP Pro, IE6, Outlook 2002 in Office XP.

I see two ISPs and Cable Internet so I need to ask.

At least one of the ISPs is a Dial-up account and using and Internal Modem I believe.

And of course Cable is using a cable Modem.

From what I reacall from past Posts on here ( even way back on the old BB last year ) the Cable Modem and an Internal Modem do not seem to want to live together too well.

And again, if I recall correctly this was one of the problems.

I also at one time had two Dial-up and Cable but I also had an External Modem for the Dial-up.

You are correct about the connections but I have two other similar laptops as does my son and neither have this problem.

PS I seem to remember that temporary internet files can cause a problem so I have deleted these but that didn’t help. Could it be a problem with cookies?

Apparently this is a known problem with Actiontec V.92 modems which Dell is using as OEM equipment.
