Alot depends on the motherboard. What speed cpu do you currently have? Then you have to look at the ram/memory.

You can probably spend 50 to 100 bucks on a newer/faster cpu and see a nice little increase...

Is it actually a Socket 7 board or a Super Socket 7 board? Many Super Socket 7 boards still just say Socket 7 on the processor socket so don't use that as a definate answer.

What is the speed of the K6-2?

    speeding up processor

Sorry that I took so long to answering this but I been busy with other things. I have found the speed of the processor 2/500 Mhz. I think the 2 goes for the how many volts. As for the memory it has 124. As for the Socket well it just says Socket 7 under the processor. And I look at the web site via couldn't find any documentation for this unless I over look it.

Can you post a model number for the mother board? Without at least that it's really hard to make any recomendations. Since you say the processor is a 500MHz., I kinda figure it's a super socket 7 board. You're not going to go a lot higher on processor speed even on a super socket 7 board to my knowledge. I used to run one with an AMD K6-2 550MHz. processor. My memory usually fails me but I don't think you're not going to go much higher on the board but send a model number and manufacturer if you can.

Here is the Make and the Model Number: VIA VT8501 and below that 9947CD and I think this is the serial number but not sure 13E002900. Now I am not sure if this is the Make or not but I am looking the big chip in the middle of the board.

    Hi Billy,

That make/model number is from the northbridge chip of the chipset. Your motherboard has an MVP4 VIA chipset. The motherboard make and model number will be printed on the actual board (usually between the PCI slots, maybe on one edge or corner or maybe along side the CPU socket).

According to what I found you would only be able to upgrade to a 550Mhz processor and would only be worth the increase if you got it very cheaply.

I tried a site called PowerLeap that can add an adapter to sometimes double the capacity. Unfortunately no K6-2 motherboards were listed (it may work out cheaper to get another motherboard on which you can upgrade other things like the RAM and graphics). I have compared them in the past and decided to save for a new motherboard.

Some sites that may be interesting for you and the other K6-2 people:

If that particular computer is up and running download Everest through Matt's signature - it will give you the motherboard details - and a lot more.
