I know this might seem like an insignificant thing but just recently the Microsoft Antispyware icon has disappeared from my taskbar. I know it is running because the task manage shows the process "gcasServ.exe" is running. I wonder if anyone can offer some input as to why this might be happening?
    Thanks

I think there remain some bugs to be sorted out in MSAS - I have no problem with the icon disappearing from the Notification Area, rather the other way round - I sometimes have 2 on boot up. One disappears if the mouse is hovered over it.

One thought here - which should not apply, but is worth checking ....

Under Taskbar > Properties > Notification Area - is Hide inactive icons ticked? Although the icon should not be inactive as the program is running - you never know.

Check which version of MSAS you are running - Help > About. The current version is 1.0.615. If you are running an earlier version go File > Check for Updates.

If all else fails uninstall the program through Add/Remove Programs - reboot and install it again. A fresh download from MS may be a good idea.

    Microsoft Antispyware Icon..

Thanks for the information...I am an old Windows 98 user and I forgot about the System Restore feature in XP so I restored to a previous System Restore Point and every thing is back to normal. Thanks for the update info though.

This can also occur when it is past it's expiration date. Doubleclick the icon on the Desktop and see if you get an expired message.
Yes, you can download it again, and get another 144 days, just did it myself.
