Hi guys. I have a friends PC in front of me which i had tried to fix. It has a blue screen 'of death' stating Unmountable_boot_volume. Thought that was OK and therefore tried to run the recovery console from the XP CD...BUT it is telling me that it cannot detect a hard disk!!

    Anyone came across before?

Here's hoping i can fix it,
    Regards,
    Gerd.

admin note: I changed the topic title to make it more specific and more descriptive. Newt

Check the BIOS and ensure that the hard drive is being detected. Next I would try and track down the harddrive test utility for that brand of harddrive. If any should fail a new harddrive might be required.
