For the last few months I have been having the same problem on 2 different computers with 2 different drives.

On system number it has a CDRW drive and on system 2 it has a DVDRW drive.

Both systems are completely up to date and both drives have had firmware updates etc as well. Both also have 512 megs of memory.

The programs I use for recording are BHA and Nero. Both these programs are on both systems aswell.

What the problem is, is if I try to copy to CD or DVD the following files:
    Picture-1.jpg
Picture 2.jpg These filenames are only examples
    Video test.mpg
    Music.mp3

Not all will copy to the disk.

For example after recording only 2 out of the 4 files will copy. So say only the 2 *.jpg files copied to disk, the *.mp3 and *.mpg files would not.
Even if I Archive the none copied files using RAR or ZIP they still will not copy.

It makes no difference what the file type is because if it copies one JPEG file it might not copy the next and so on.

Both systems are using XP Pro ( with service pack 2) and both systems have only had this problem for the last few months. I've gone to the support sites for both drives aswell as for Nero and BHA but have had no luck at all. I have even sent emails but have never recieved a response.

Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong.

BTW I also thought that maybe XP's recording "program" might be interfering with my usual recording software, so I disabled it, but I still have the same problem.

Also ALL CD's and DVD's play perfectly, its just not recording.....

This is very strange - will each file copy individually?

The one point that stands out is that it is generally considered unwise to have two burning programs on the drive in view of possible conflicts. I would uninstall one of the burning programs and try again.

I assume you can see the files on the list to be burned?

I can see all files that are to be copied with no problems... If I were to copy say for example Movie1.mpg by itself it will always copy but anything else I try to copy might not. It's kind of hard to explain really. The very first file always copies.

Usually before I copy anything to a CD or DVD I wait until I have atleast 50 or more to be copied at one time. But the way it works out, out of 50 files about 2/3's of them will copy the rest won't.

I have removed Nero from one system and BHA from the other system today but it still does it and for the life of me I can't figure out why. I also took both systems to a local tech and he tried to figure it out aswell but he too was left in the dark as to a cause,. He said he has never seen it happen before. I'm completely lost.

    I'm baffled, too

Well worth running System File Checker ....

Start > Run > type in sfc /scannow - note the space bsfore the / and have your XP CD handy. SFC will run and exit without any closing dialogue. To see which files, if any, were replaced look in Event Viewer.

Are you trying to burn under the right type of burn? Many people think that because mpg and jpg are video that they should use "make video CD ". This is not correct, expecially if you are mixing mpg and jpg. mpg, jpg, mp3, etc. should be burned as a data cd, not video. In the case of mp3, data, not audio cd.

PeteC, I have run System File Checker and found nothing unusual, however later when you mention the Update for HighMAT support in the Windows XP CD Writing Wizard, the answer is YES I did install it. That is also one of the things I have been wondering about. Now I am not sure if it was installed before or after I started having this problem. Could this possibly be the cause??? And is there a way to turn it off (I don't know if you can turn it off and on) or should I remove it presumably through the add\remove programs???

jaylach, I always copy everything (mpg and jpg. mpg, jpg, mp3, etc) as Data
but I tried recording some files today (that were previously recorded about a year ago (I copied them to my Hard drive)) and I got exactly the same results. Out of 196 files, only 72 files copied. The files were a mixture of the above formats.
