Often when I do something the covers up the desktop (Open a folder, go online, play a game), I will find that when I come back to the desktop, my icons have been rearranged! Does anyone have an idea of what could be causing this?

When you right click on the desktop, do you have "Auto Arrange" or "Run Cleanup Wizard" ticked? If so, untick them.

Try right clicking on the Desktop

Select " arrange Icons by "

Check " Align to Grid. "

This is the only thing that I have found that keeps them in place.

Then you shoulde be able to arrange them to your liking and have them stay but. At least mine do. But I only have three ( 3 ) icons on the desktop anyway so it is not much of a problem.

    http://www.nthelp.com/50/save_desktop_layout.htm

This thing works the right click of your mouse on My Computer. It will save and restore desktop icon layouts. The only problem is that sometimes I'm in a hurry to restore a layout and I accidently save instead!

    BTW, it's free.

I have "allign to grid" checked, all that does is make them allign in a grid, not free positioning (However you can still move them). Also, I would rather not DL more than I have to, so I think I'll try to fix this without downloading 3 party things. thanks though!

This may be a WILD ( very ) question but.

Is there possibley an arrange/sort by name mixed into this somewhere ?

I know there is other places but I do not know about the DeskTop. I have never had that many on it to worry about.

AHH !!! I just took a looked at a desktop right click and there is a Selection to Arrange by Name. I myself had a problem in 98 with that one.

    In case somebody is interested

TweakIU (both versions will work side by side in XP) has a repair icon function also. Don't know if it will help in this particular circumstance, but I thought I would mention it if anyone else has a similar problem.

    Been looking around for answers.

In checking I find that it may be possible that the file size is too large.

If this is indeed true then I will see what I can do about resizing it. I have software that will do that for me.

    YYYYYEEESSSSSSSS !! It worked.

I am betting on file size. I resized the pix

That is not only me Desktop but is a REAL picture of our home. ( the one on the right )

This reply has been edited with the new Picture. Works ( I THINK ) like it should now.

    BB.
Below the Reply pane under Additional Options is a Manage Attachments button - hit that - another window opens - click browse - in the Choose File dialogue box navigate to the file (note the file types permitted) - highlight it - click on Open - click on Upload. You will not see the file attachment in Preview Post.

This ( if it works ) is the picture I really wanted.

I had to download a different program to get it. It shows why the desktop is so clean. The other program only caught the DESKTOP not the SCREEN.

I know I am using up server space here but it is the only way I can learn. That list on the left is from clicking on START. And SHOWS what is what MUCH better than words.

O-KEY-DOE-KEY !!! It worked so I will stop messing around now.

Just gotta ( hopefully ) remember what I did this time so I cna do it again sometime.

If we are talking about the same thing you are correct. It does not show in the preview pain.

But, if all goes well it will show down near the Manage Attachments buttion.

I noticed this during the 2nd attempt to add an attachment. I went back and checked the original one and it did not show. So I deleted that one and replaced it with a new one and it showed.

I really think that the Original PrintScreen program I was using was just plain incompatable with XP. I do not know why LOL. It has only been around since Win95. But also this is the first time I have really tried to use it for a long time.

But up untill the last few days I could not attach files anyway.

OH Well !! Another new page added to my Book of Learning.

I use the http://www.nthelp.com/50/save_desktop_layout.htm as mentioned by RayH. Works great.
You need to Place Layout.dll in C:\Windows\System (or System32 if using Windows XP), and then click on Layout.reg. From now on, whenever you right-click on the "Recycle Bin" or "My Computer" icons, you can see a new option: "Save [or Restore] Desktop Icon Layout ".

    Referring to my 2nd attachment.

I had most of the itmes shown on the desktop at one time. They were NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS Regardless of what I did ( even some of the ideas posted here ) They would never stay put.

One Icon might be in the upper left corner this AM. By the time the day was over it might be in the lower right corner of the group. Or even somewhere in the middle.

Even the folders would not stay in place. So as an experiment I started moving some things over to where they are now.

They now stay but. Plus most of the folders contain 15-20 or more shortcuts. And by them staying put I do not have to do a lot of searching through various START/PROGRAMS folders to find what I want.

And having things sorted in groups ( folders ) and sorted alphapeticly within the folder helps a lot.

Also the more stuff on the Desktop the harder the video has to work ( I believe anyway )

But the biggest things is THEY STAY PUT.

    I found Gadwin ScreenSaver

The attached Picture should be self-explaining.

Even if just the shortcuts shown were on the desktop, where would the others go.

Gotta go pick up a 5 year old Kid that we are baby sitting for. Catch Y'all later.

Does that enable you to capture a single dialogue box if required or only the entire screen?
