    Za

Have it check for updates manually rather than automatically. It's in Preferences

    Hi alboy,

if you don't want to be nagged, take smokinjoe's advice and shut it off.

I'm going to wait until sometime in the fall to install whatever version of 6.0 exists at that time. There's been an update already to the initial version.

If you do install it, I've gathered that it is far better to uninstall your current version and clean install 6.0 than upgrade, this version seems to be a larger jump than the one between 3.x and 4.x. One of the new features is the addition of process/app execution permission/denial, similar to Process Guard or System Safety Monitor, in other words, a process firewall. For anyone not familiar with that sort of thing, in can be hugely confusing. Some of the bugs that I've been reading about revolve around that issue.

I would also recommend that you have a way to backtrack that you have confidence in - I'm going to create a drive image before I install it :)

If you want to get a flavor of how v6.0 is doing, watch the ZA forum - but keep in mind that the posts are going to be mostly complaints/horror stories. Another forum to watch is wilders under their firewall section.

    Regards - Charles

Many thanks for the replies, I know i can turn off the auto check for updates i was more concerned about any bugs in the new version i think i will wait until these have been ironed out before installing in a month or two.

    Hi Alboy,
Being either brave or stupid, I jumped straight into the latest version and installed it as an upgrade, not a clean install. Everything works very well for me, no problems yet!
You probably know that it has its own anti-spyware now, but what is new and reassuring is that it warns you if any programme tries to carry out a 'Dangerous' process, like a link in an e-mail or in a programme opening a browser to go to a web site.
I'll post back if anything untoward happens.

    Roger :)

    Hi Roger,
That I know I'm going to disable, the way that's done is through ZL servers.

That is a big leap, I run a "application firewall" - System Safety Monitor - and ZAP implementation of it in this form will be interesting to watch. The hard part as always: what's a 'Dangerous' process. I came across a post wherein someone was utterly befuddled because ZAP threw up a warning when an app accessed Notepad.
