Can anyone here explain to me how to setup a mail filter that filters messages written in any language other than English? I am having a huge problem with Russian language email spams and would like to filter it out if possible.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Ramona!! :)

    Kenny,
I spent a lot of time on setting up filters, and, i just gave up, because they may last one week, may be two, and, then something else is attempted.
If they are from russian e-mail addresses, you could try to set up a sender and body filter, to *.ru (or whatever is a russian equivalent to .com), if you don't mind a complete blockage.
My ISP is doing a worse and worse job in blocking spam, from over 95%, to less than 80%, and very few are blocked my the Thunderbird, or Mozilla Spam Controls, or the filters which I set up, with no increase in total mailings. They seem to have something different every time. I am finding so easy to mark unwanted mail, by clicking on the Junk asterisk, or whatever it is, setting up all such mail, to go directly to Trash. It takes me a few seconds, instead of spending time.

Westside, I hear you about the spam. I'm on Adelphia and it's gotten so bad recently that i'm about ready to give them the boot all the way around! I'll buy a dish for my tv instead of giving them my money. It's sickening!

I found a site that is just starting up which is trying to take some independent action against spammers. Right now they are concentrated on these online pharmacies. I joined up about two weeks ago and have noticed a bit of a drop in those types of spams. If you care to have a look, go here:

    Hey Kenny!

Westside is right on with his suggestion to set up your Junk Mail Controls, as that is much more effective than a filter. It will take a week or so for the Junk controls to recognize that type of mail, but once it does, it will go directly to the Junk folder, once you set it up.

    Ramona,
I use the Junk controls, but I don't count on them. As I said Cox, is handling nearly 80% of the Spam, and of the remaining 20% the Spam Controls will handle about one third. I am not so patient, as I was told that at least one week is necessary. Other people say one month. I tolerate one day.
And, whatever is not handled by either Spam or Junk Controls is deleted via Junk Controls (deleting marked messages). It takes less time to mark message, than to delete them individually.
I think that spam has gotten out of control. But, there are still people dumb enough to respond to those e-mail, and, actually use their "services ".
To me, it is the worse kind of invasion of privacy, even if just attempted invasion.
