I have a computer in which when you boot it up is shows win98 screen then it boots up unto safe mode. Well before this happens ( it did start regular with all the device drivers loaded ) I tried to uninstall antivirus so I can put in another antivirus software. Well after I uninstall antvirus and tried to put in the new software I hit a snag. I have read possible that the new antvirus sft. could have had conflict with resource interrupts. And I might have to reinstall windows 98. I don't know if this will correct the problem or not.

    Hi,
This is how I would tackle it.
Boot into Safe Mode (? :) ) and uninstall the new antivirus.
No luck, go to Start > Run and enter msconfig. In msconfig go the Config.sys and Autoexec.bat tabs, anything in these can be unchecked, they are basically for the benefit of Win 95. Go to the Startup tab where you can uncheck everything except System Tray, note if anything relates to the old antivirus. If it boots to normal Windows, go back to msconfig and recheck (retick) everything that you think should run at startup. Reboot and see if it goes back to normal Windows. You can narrow down the problem this way if it is due to a startup program.

If you are right about the interupt conflict (although antivirus should only be trying to access the file system  ), you can change interupt/resource settings by changing the position of the PCI cards in the PCI slots. Try to keep soundcards and PCI modems in the slots furthest from the graphics card. Don't worry about reinstalling drivers for the PCI hardware, Windows should reinstall them automatically (or when it asks where to look for drivers, uncheck all the boxes so that it will search the Windows\System folder).

In Safe Mode, go to Device Manager and open all the headings. Look for multiple listings of the same hardware. If you see multiple listings delete (remove) all of them, but when you get back to normal Windows you will need to find the "correct "/updated drivers for that hardware.

If you are not certain that you have a good set of motherboard/chipset drivers installed, go the motherboard manufacturers website and get the latest.

Well, that covers just about all the Safe Mode starts I know :D . I think you will find the answer there somewhere.
(Actually, I had the same problem yesterday, but it was modem/MP3 player drivers that caused a conflict...moved the modem into a different slot and uninstalled the !@#$% MP3 drivers and all is well)

    Matt

Reinstalling windows will not fix it.
Did you reboot after uninstalling the first AV, and before you installed the second? Not doing this can create the problem you now have.
What was the first AV, and the second AV?
