I have a TDK Velo Writer 161040x Internal since about June 2003. Just as I'm about to hit the burn function in Nero 5, I get a blue screen. I can eventually burn discs, after a lot of screwing around with taking out the discs, ejecting the draw a few times, and on and on and on it goes.

I update to Nero 6.6.0.14. And now the cd burner is working fine. I can burn all sorts of discs.

Now when I burn an audio disc, the first seven or so seconds of the first track is missing.

I'm using Windows ME, with ForceAspi 1.7, and have totally cleaned out my puter with Norton Internet Security 2003, Adaware, Spybot S&D, Registry Mechanic, and still keep getting the same problems.

With the process of elimination, I can only now think that the driver i got with the unit is corrupt. I've searched all over the internet and cannot find the drivers to the unit.

Could someone Please let me know where I can get the drivers to this actual burner, as this problem is killing my sanity.

    Hey, radiogold!

I had that unit for many years until it finally went kaput. If you mean a firmware update there was just one of those. The last I checked, TDK still has all the updates for the drive in their support section.

There was another firmware update on the page but that was not for my exact model. So before you do anything make sure you're using the proper one for your model. You've got to make a Dos startup floppy from My Computer, right click the floppy drive, choose format, and choose Ms-Dos startup floppy. Then copy whatever TDK tells you to in its instructions to the floppy. You boot from it and run the firmware update.

Your problem sounds more like a Nero software thing though. You might try uninstalling Nero and reinstalling it. Make sure you download the Nero cleanup programs from Nero's download site and completely clean Nero from your machine before reinstalling it.

Remember, old drives do die. That may also be the case here.

Another thing. I remember that the software the drive came with was Nero 5.0. That meant that the highest version I could use without purchasing it from Nero was the latest 5.5 version now on the Nero website. To get that to work, you first need to install the version on your cd, then get the latest TDK version of Nero 5.5 offered on the TDK support page for your model and install that, then update to the latest 5.5 version downloaded from Nero's website. The 5.5 updates on the Nero site only work on already installed 5.5 versions, and you get that from TDK. If you want Nero 6 you need to buy it. They do have an upgrade discount. Of course, you may have already done this. I just noticed you mentioned you're using Nero 6.
