First off - THANK YOU SO MUCH - your directions for retrieving "lost email account" for Netscape 7.2/Mozilla in a thread posted in 2004 WORKED for me!! Much appreciated. Thank you, thank you.
But also lost all "My Sidebar" customized tabs in Netscape 7.2 browser and haven't been able to find it on C drive and retrieve it. Any way to get that back?

    Welcome to the Forum, edithg!

    Edith,

I'm glad that you were able to find a solution for your lost mail by searching the Forum. Congratulations! There is a "sticky" at the top of the Forum threads which also covers this problem: Lost Mail/Profile - Preventive Browser Maint. This is FYI for future reference...

Now, to your Lost Sidebar Tabs. Netscape looks in the "panels.rdf" file in your user profile directory to find the sidebar tabs, each time you run the program. If you make frequent backups of your profile directory you'll always be able to restore your customized tabs.

What you can do, is rename the existing panels.rdf file to Xpanels.rdf file, and copy the backup panels.rdf file to the *.slt folder.

The *.slt folder is located here: C:\Documents and Settings\user_name\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\profilename\*.slt

NOTE: These files are hidden by default.
    To see hidden files:
    1. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options
    2. Click the View tab
    3. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders
    4. Disable "Hide File Extensions for Known Files. "
    5. Click OK.

If there is no backup file, and you haven't saved your customized tab files, then you most likely will need to recreate the tabs...

NETSCAPE 7.2. LOST EMAIL & SIDEBAR

Many thanks Ramona -- you are a "gem" ... a diamond in disguise. I can't tell you how frustrated I was over the lost email account problem (much unanswered important email lost) and when I called Netscape they wanted $39.95 with NO guarantee of solution. I'm on Windows 98 and did not have the profile backed-up, but the thorough "alternative" outline your provided for retrieving lost email by finding the path of where the emails were on the C drive worked for me - got all my emails :) back! (Incidentally, just for info, I did not have "quick launch" activated when I lost my email account and still don't)

I'll review your instructions on the sidebar and get back to you just so you know if I succeeded ... it probably will take me a while to figure it out (it took me that long to solve the email problem) I'm slow.
(No reply necessary at this time ... just want to express my thanks again ... so fortunate for us that you guys are there to help - doing Netscape's job!)
