    Hi,
We have a Dell Computer with Windows XP Pro, SP2 operating System.
It came preloaded with Microsoft Works Suite which included the following:

    Microsoft Encarta
    Microsoft Street & Trips
Microsoft Picture It, Photo Premium 9

When checking the directories, the above 3 programs totaled 643 MB.

We partitioned the hard drive and uninstalled these programs and then reinstalled them on another partition.

Afterwards we checked the drives and the C drive that initially had these programs installed increased in size from 8.63 GB to 8.65 GB instead of decreasing in size.

Can anyone explain what is happening?

    Thanks.

Do you ahve recycle bin? Try to empty the recycle bin first.
Try to remove the temporary files doing a disk clean up.

    Hi Windux,
    Thanks for the reply.
We always try to keep the Recycle Bin Emptied.

Even though we uninstalled 643 MB of files from the C: drive, it didn't show up when we checked our C: drive. The actual size of the C: drive actually showed a small increase instead of a decrease.

We finally deleted all but the last Restore Point in System Restore and this brought down the size of our C: drive to 7.77 GB.

    Thanks.

Something I don't like doing because I may need a restore point further back.

Another way to handle SR size:

Right click on My Computer > Properties > System Restore tab and for the Monitored drive > settings. Move the slider left to 6% and reboot, reset the slider back to 12%. That'll get of the oldest RP's or if you don't want that many RP's at any one time, then set the slider at less than the 12% max. I keep mine at 4% on a 21GB OS partition.

    Regards - Charles
