    Hey all,
I want to setup a webserver, i have installed W2k3, installed IIS6 and DNS.
Although im tad confused as to how to set it up properly as to allow it to host several sites. i have 1 static ip.
do i need to create to zones in dns NS1 + 2?
i have a domain name what do i do with it? do i need to setup my dns with my domain name?
what sql is best to use MySQL or something else?
also does anyone know of a free control panel i can setup for "customers" as such.

sorry if anyone rejects to this topic :( i am tad confused.

    Intranet ou Internet?
Do you have domain?I think not.
Yes, you need to create oone zone for host your records on dns service.
The zone must be created on the dns that you want, one of the servers will be the master zone server and will replicate that zone to the others.
You can use your domain name to create the zone, if you want.
Then you will create the A (host) records for your URL.
If you will use IIS6 with w2k3 why you are thinking in mysql?
What kind of web will be ?
You should use asp or asp.net?

    both intranet and internet.
i have a domain name, infact i have two.
i said mysql because i dont know of anything else?
it will host all kinds of websites but first off required is, php, asp, sql

should a zone be the domain name, i.e 123.com 321.com i should create two zones called them?

You need to create the records for www.123.com and www.321.com
You can have only one zone for these records is up to you.
If you have on or two insternal domains then you have already zones on the dns.
If you want to resolve the dns requests for the INTERNET with your internal dns you will need to create these records there otherwise you will need to create these records on the public dns.
For the intranet you just need to create the A(host) record (www.123.com and www.321.com)on the dns zone for your clients.
If you want to use ASP you will need IIS.
If you want to use PHP you will need to set up another web service like APACHE for windows.
    :)

You need to create ALIAS names (various names for the same IP) for the sites and configure the IIS or Apache to identify the site.
OR have various IP addresses and assign each ip to each site, you must to this in IIS and Apache.
MYSQL Work with windows but you need MS SQL to work with ASP or MS Access.

What do you mean with msn? Messenger?

yeah add u 2 msn messenger

i worked out that "header value" will choose the correct site depending on what is in the address bar.

so internal is ok, its just making it all public to the internet im not sure of.?

You can have the messenger but you will need the Exchange server.
Lot of work and security connections!
