Got a computer that was once XP but is now WIn98se. Had to do a complete wash to get the whole HD cleaned so Win98se could be installed properly. But now I only have the basic 600x480 screen settings. Do I need to get a brand new video card or could I just download a driver for it to get the whole 800x600 or better.

If there is somewhere I can get a driver (or whatever basic) can someone direct me there.

Also, if you guys have any diagnostic tools to throw at me, just toss them into the hat. Something to check my drivers and look for updates and stuff. You all know. That's why you get the bigbucks. (Or do you?) eh heh

Oh. Hello everyone. Been a year + since I been here. Military and all.

You don't need a new video card, just need to install the driver for it.
Everest Home Edition is a good program to tell you what you have on your system. However it may show your video card as a VGA in 16 color, and you know that already.
Use these dos commands to have your video card identify itself.
Open a dos window and enter this command and press Enter.
    debug
Your prompt will change to a blinking underline. Enter this line as it is (those are zero's) and press Enter.
    D C000:0040
Now look to the right, in a confusing sort of way your video card is spelled out (may be "word wrapped ").
Enter in this and press Enter to exit debug.

    markp62, very impressive :)
Using your method, the model number came up for mine. That model number can be used in a web search to locate the driver files.

The other way I know is to look at the very first screen that appears when you power up. Some monitors may be slow to come on, so you may need to press the reset button to see it. It goes by very quickly.

Just to throw it in you can also search for device drivers by the FCC ID number.

Also, a good place to search for the drivers is Drivers Guide
