    FIREFOX 1.0.4
    Windows XP Service Pack 2

Within the last few days, my Yahoo e mail log-in account interface seems to have become corrupted and it will not let me log in using my Firefox browser. The username and password window/box seems to be sort of doubled around the edges and will not accept either my username or password. Normally, this window will automatically show my user name and all I have to do is to fill in my password. Now, both spaces are empty and will not retain the data. If I use Internet Explorer or Netscape, it comes up fine and I may log in, or if I use my Firefox browser in another computer I may log in. It is just this one laptop.

I cannot understand why this would happen. The browser has been fine at this site since I have started using it. I have even run spybot and adaware, thinking that maybe someone or something has corrupted my operating system but it is clean.

    Thanks for any ideas.

    Bettina

I using the latest FF, 1.0.6, and it works fine with Yahoo. Only guess, although it makes no sense. If you have stored passwords for Yahoo, or have any Yahoo cookies, go to Privacy|Saved passwords or Cookies, and delete them.
    Then try again.

And, if you added any extention lately, look at this thread, and get in to FF in Safe Mode .
You can go to Start|Programs|Firefox| Safe Mode

Is FireFox "displaying" two sets of pages ... almost like duplicate pages attached end to end. This latter problem I have seen before. Do you have any extensions installed?

Westside- Interesting enough, I had twice deleted the cookies and there is no stored password for Yahoo since it has to be renewed every 24 hours. However, I did it again, at your suggestion, and the problem seems to be solved. There were atleast five cookies, and I assume that I did not delete each and every one the two times that I tried it before I consulted the forum. I shall, however, wait another twenty four hours, when Yahoo requests that I sign in again, before I breathe a sigh of relief. I assume that the problem is solved.

Dennis L.- It was not displaying two pages end to end. It was as if there were two sign in windows, one on top of the other, which I have never seen in any browser. This is what made me wonder if perhaps someone had gotten into my computer and somehow had place their window on top of mine. Just the three inch by three inch window, where I could see the frame one on top of the other but not exactly lined up with edges matching.

I think that in this age of trying to be security conscious, the slightest thing out of the ordinary sets one a worrying.

Thanks to both of you for the response. I am here in the middle east- but the world is so small these days that there are really no borders.

I have one site I use infrequently (site login screen) which presents 2 views end to end. I can NOT input anything into this view. I can jump on IE or have Firefox in "Safe Mode" and the view is correct and allows input. I blame it on the many extensions I have installed ... but that is purely an assumption.

I am really grateful to Jim for bringing up the Safe Mode issue. There are so extentions that one can worry about some of them. I don't know if the Safe Mode approach is any better than the brute force approach, which I used, but I would think that the Safe Mode approach would eliminate Extention issues, and would there be cookies issues, the problem would persist.
As for Yahoo, it has three cookies for just getting it, plus five more after signing in. A total of eight.

Twenty four hours have gone by since I first deleted the cookies and logged in to Yahoo and I just made another log in so I seem to have passed the test. Interesting about all of the Yahoo cookies since I only found five.

The eight cookies I had reported were in Deer Park a2 (the future FF1.5). In this still alpha, browser, all cookie belonging to one program are in one location, i.e. yahoo.com. In Firefox1.0.6, I found seven cookies, five of which were yahoo.com, and one each:www.yahoo.com and myyahoo.com. Most of the cookies had the same designation, lyke: LYC,U,F and B, but 1.0.6 which was set up a while ago has a different array. They would probably become the same as in Deer Park if deleted, but I have not tried.
