    Hi --

We are hoping that someone can help us with our recent problems of not being able to access certain web pages. When we try to go to web pages (they appear to be secure) we get a page that states

<< "The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Please try the following:

Click the Refresh button, or try again later.

If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly.

To check your connection settings, click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Connections tab, click Settings. The settings should match those provided by your local area network (LAN) administrator or Internet service provider (ISP).
If your Network Administrator has enabled it, Microsoft Windows can examine your network and automatically discover network connection settings.
If you would like Windows to try and discover them,
    click Detect Network Settings
Some sites require 128-bit connection security. Click the Help menu and then click About Internet Explorer to determine what strength security you have installed.
If you are trying to reach a secure site, make sure your Security settings can support it. Click the Tools menu, and then click Internet Options. On the Advanced tab, scroll to the Security section and check settings for SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0, TLS 1.0, PCT 1.0.
Click the Back button to try another link.
Cannot find server or DNS Error
    <<Internet Explorer

I tried doing what this page stated to remedy to situation, but to no avail. Any advice?

Is this only happening in the case of one or two sites? Or numerous of the sites which you attempt to visit?

If the former, then it is likely that the problem rests with the sites themselves and that your setup is fine.

Could you post a link to one of the pages with which you are having difficulty? Also, have you spoken to your ISP as it could be, for example, a DNS problem at their end?

    problems with IE6

One of the sites I'm having problems with is www.paypal.com - I can get to the main page but it will not let me get to the login page.

I have spoken to my ISP -- they also think it is a problem with the particular pages -- but we don't agree. It's happening much too consistently on very high profile sites.

    Thanks,

    Aileen

I've just tried the Paypal page. As you say, I couldn't get past the main page. I got the following answer when I tried to link to the login page:

"You cannot log in to PayPal because your browser does not currently support cookies. You must enable cookies on with your browser before you may use the PayPal site. Please go to your browser's help files to learn how to enable cookies. After you have enabled cookies, you may have to refresh the page twice.

If you have already enabled cookies and are still unable to log in to the PayPal website, please email service@paypal.com ".

Now, I went to Internet Options/Connections/Settings and disabled a firewall I have there which acts as a cookies filter. To achieve this, I unchecked both checkboxes about automatic or manual configuration.

After OKeying it, I could access the login page. (BTW, I didn't have to refresh the page twice, as it says in the notice).

I must thank Arie Slob, our moderator, for the idea.

    Hope this helps

To rule out any ISP's issues, try accessing the sites via this proxy (just sign-up for the free 7 day trial :))

    Post back with the results.

Are you running IE 6.0? Could you have your "Privacy" options set to high so your PC will not accept cookies. Some sites will not let you into them unless you accept their cookie.

When you go to a site do you have a little, what I call a "red eye ", in the bottom right corner of your status bar?
