Here's my issue... I have an HP 7955 and the mobo went out. It was an ASUS P4U-LA. I got and ASUS P4GE-MX to replace it. I put it all together and when I boot it, I get the "blue screen of death." then it goes right back into starting itself over. A friend suggested the old HD had a virus, so I took it out, put it in the new CPU that I had to get and did a virus scan. Got that all cleaned up and that wasn't the solution. Another friend told me that I need to re-install windows. My question is: what do I do???

I believe your Friend is correct. I do not believe the machine should have been booted directly to the old HD on the new MB the first time.

The HD in this machine is on its 3rd MB. Well not really the HD itself but an 80gig copy of a 40gig which was on the 2nd machine.

But I NEVER allowed it to boot the the HD the first time. I always booted to the Floppy and re-installed Windows. Haven't had a probllem YET anyway

It had 98SE on it when I first put it on this machine. It now has XP pro on it.

If not too much damage has been done you could try this. I do not think you realy have much to lose.

    BillyBob,
I put my Windows XP CD in it and set the BOIS to read the CDROM first and it's not doing what it should. I don't have a boot disk for it, only a pirated Windows XP disc. It's still doing what it was doing before. Any other ideas since I don't have a boot disc?

No I do not have any more ideas now.

All HDs that I have taken from one machine to the other have had a much easier OS to mess with. Win95 or Win98. And as I said before, were booted to the floppy and Windows re-installed.

I have no idea how to handle XP in this situation.

You cannot run a pirated copy and the the moderators will close this thread if you try. The HP version of Windows that you have will no longer work. You need to get retail version of Win XP or go back to an old version of Windows if you have one.
    Post back when you do.
    Sorry,
    Matt
