The first time you visit a passworded web site, Netscape 7x asks whether you want Netscape to remember your password. The choices are something like "Yes," "No," or "Never for this site." If you choose "No," Netscape never asks you again when you subsequently log on to that site, so it's just as though you had clicked on "Never for this site. "

Is there any way to re-activate the save-password window for a site that you have visited before, even though you once chose "No" in response to the save-password question? There seems to be nothing in Password Manager that will do this.

    simonh,

I believe it would depend on the site, as to whether or not you can force Netscape to ask again to save the password. Have you tried logging out, and disabling any "remember this password/login" options?

In the future, when prompted to remember the password, click "Never for this site ". The site is then listed in the Password Manager, under the tab "Passwords Never Saved ". You will then be able to remove the site from the "Passwords Never Saved" list, (select the site and click "Remove ") in the event you change your mind later.

    Thanks, Ramona.

In the future, I'll try the "Never for this site" option, even though it is counter-intuitive.

As for sites I have already visited, are you suggesting that I delete all passwords in the Password Manager and then try to log in again to each one to be give the option to save?

    Simon,

Your alternative for using "Never for this site" would be to rename the password file, and start from scratch. The password file is named with random digits with an "s" extension, e.g., 34551238.s. The file is located in the Profiles\*.slt folder.

Before renaming and starting over, open the password (*.s) file with WordPad. Highlight the file, right click, and select "Open with ". Then select WordPad from the Programs list. Look for anything that looks suspicious, such as binary garbage, etc. Delete it, and then save the file. Back up the *.s file first...

What I was suggesting was for the web sites themselves. Log out of the web site, and in addition to what I suggested earlier, look in Cookie Manager, and delete the cookie for the specific web site.

    Hope this answers your questions.

    Simon,

I did come across some information which may interest you. The Yahoo site doesn't save passwords, so if it is on your list, you can forget about it.

I also learned that this bookmarklet makes the browser ignore web site requests to not remember passwords.: Remember Password
