I recently accidentally did a backup of C: to "Documents & Settings" instead of over my network. The backup failed when it ran out of space. I removed the "bkf" file but still the C: drive is almost full. Before it had about 17GB, now it says 34GB. If you get properties for each folder on C: it adds up to about 17GB. Search does not show any enormous files. Chkdsk and Norton diagnoise disk don't help.

    Win 2K Pro SP4
    AMD Athlon 1 Ghz
    512MB Ram

Not that it should of fit in the recycle bin when you deleted it... But did you empty your recycle bin after deleteing it? Also, since you mention Norton, did you clear norton protected files in the recycle bin if enabled?

I'm guessing that when you said had about 17GB, now it says 34GB. You meant 34MB

Norton disk doctor had an option to check free space which worked.

Norton utility fixed the problem. It was a Maxtor.
