IE6 crashes

I suddenly have this problem where internet explorer crashes when I click on certain links. I'm running XP SP2, and the details of the error message are:

AppName: iexplore.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 ModName: kernel32.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 0001eb33

The onset of the problem coincided with an attack by the Bloodhound.32.EP virus. I've scanned my computer with NAV, but it has not come up with anything. However, the NAV activity log identifies C:\windows\system32\oleext32.dll as the source of the threat. I have not been able to delete this file so far, and when I try I get more virus warnings from NAV. I'm not sure if this is connected to my IE6 problem, but it seems to be too much of a coincidence.

Can anyone help?

 

When Norton finds a file that could be a virus using it's heuristics (Bloodhound), the first part of the name is Bloodhound, with the virus name it closely resembles added to it. You have something new or unrecognized completely by Norton as a virus in the definition tables.
Get HijackThis, and unzip it into a folder. Then open it and do these instructions.
Click on 'Open the misc tools section', then click on 'Delete a file on reboot', you will have a File Open window appear. Copy/paste this into it.

C:\windows\system32\oleext32.dll

Then click on OK, and you will be prompted to reboot.

BTW, it would be a good idea to post a HijackThis log on here, as something else is there.

 

Got rid of infected file, but problem with IE6 continues

I was able to delete oleext32.dll, which NAV was identifying as infected, but the problem with IE6 has not changed. I'm posting my HJT log below.

Your log is clean.
I believe you should attempt a repair internet explorer. Go to Start\Run, type in 'SFC /SCANNOW' and press Enter. Have your XP CD handy as you will be prompted for it.
