I am looking for the regsitry entry that sets the power button on the PC to "shutdown" when pressed (as opposed to hibernate, stand by,etc). Anyone know where it is located? I can find the Power Scheme settings but haven't been able to locate the advanced settings.

    Thanks in advance.

That's on the Advanced tab from Power Options in Control Panel.

Yes, I am aware of that. I am looking for the Registry Key that holds that setting. I have found the powerpolicy but can't locate the key that is changed during that setting.

    THanks.

    Under this key:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Controls Folder\PowerCfg\
You found the right spot I believe, but you may not have recognized it. What you are seeking to manually change is Binary code represented in Hexidecimal form.
Go to a subKey under that one, and right click the Value "Policies ", and select Modify, but just take a look. It is in all those numbers and letters (Hexidecimal or base 16 numerical system), that the changes occur.
I do not recommend changing anything here, unexpected results will occur.

    Thanks Mark....

I have done some editing of the Hex info found in that key with some luck. I usually copy the info to wordpad...make a change in control panel/power options.....then go back and compare. I didn't realize that the power button setting would be in there also but it makes perfect sense.

Just in case you're interested, my situation is .... I have an image for about 1200 machines. The image was made under the windows "administrator ". All my settings are fine as long as I long in as administrator. But as soon as some one else logs in...their profile is created....the settings change. If I could find the default settings...make my changes....copy the key.....I could zen it down to all novell workstations on their next boot.

    Always looking for a shortcut....:)

    Thanks again.
