Something called Win Fixer 2005 Installer is trying to download itself into my computer. This seems to happen when the computer is booted up. It leaves an icon on my desktop, and and icon on the taskbar. A window also pops up saying the download is in progress.

In Task Manager is a process UWFX5LP_001_0... that I end. There is also something similar in msconfig that I uncheck. But when I reboot, it happens all over again.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Empty your temp folders (all of them) and Prefetch, delete any related shortcuts/files/icons you find, and if comfortable in the registry, remove the entry from the run key rather than unchecking it in msconfig.
    HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run or
    HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
    Empty the recycle bin.

    Reboot.

If the problem persists, please post a current HijackThis log.

For once, it seems I may have solved the problem myself. I did a Hijack This scan and found what I think was causing the problem. While normally I won't check things in Hijack This without first posting the log, I felt comfortable doing so in this case, as the entry was labeled pretty clearly, ie. Win Fixer. I did this last night after my original post but before Noahdfear's reply.

I'll keep an eye on it for the next day or so to make sure it doesn't re-occur. Hopefully, if it does, my other family members will tell me about it a little sooner than they did this time. When I saw it in the task bar and asked if anyone knew anything about it, the reply I got was, "Oh, that's been popping up all day."

I can't fix it if they don't tell me about it! (Please excuse the venting.)
