I'm looking for a version that's fast at browsing AND I will not use the email portion of it. Heard the newer versions are buggy with the mail. Going to ftp.netscape we can get almost every version available, so I don't care if it's older, just handle Java and browsing at a fast clip.

    Thanks

Netscape Navigator 6.2.3 standalone would be your best choice.

    Hi dmz1967,

Either Mozilla 1.0 RC3, or Netscape 7.0 PR1. They're both fast, still some bugs, but for the most part fairly stable.

I have experienced both browsers, and am using Netscape 7.0 currently. I only installed today, so still experimenting, and so far so good. It is fast! It is a bit more polished than Mozilla, includes the WebMail, if you're interested. That does require AIM. You can do a Custom install and eliminate a lot of fetures, i.e., multimedia, Net2fone, Java, etc. I would recommend installing Java from Sun's site.

Both browsers did the automatic transfer of my Communicator 4.79 User Profile with no problems whatsoever.

If you're not interested in all the fluff, then try Mozilla. None of the media programs, and you can copy your Communicator plugins to Mozilla. If you use Crescendo, you will need to update to the latest version. Crescendo no longer has Webhancer, so you can relax about spyware.

I did have a problem with some preferences not being retained in Mozilla. You may not have this problem, not everyone does.

Wise move to use Communicator for Mail & Newsgroups!

Hopefully other users will jump in here and give their experience.

    Ramona :D
