 I'm not sure if I'm posting this in the right place. Anyway, I just recently bought a new sound card so I can use my speaker for playing songs using windows media player, etc, and so I can use it to watch TV on my computer. The sound card was working properly. But I still can't hear any sound when I try to watch TV on my computer. The cable to share my speaker to the TV tuner card is plugged on the right places, which are the line-in and audio-out. I can only hear sound from my TV tuner card if I directly plug the speaker cable to the audio-out area of my TV tuner card. By the way, my computer's using windows 2003 server.

Your Line In channel may be muted or have its volume set at/near zero. Check your mixer settings.

If Hotaru's suggestion does not work, please post back with the make and model of both your soundcard and TV tuner card.

I have a tuner in my system. One thing to make sure of in your mixer is that, if the option is there, to have "what you hear ", on mine it's in red all the way to the right, is UNmuted and set at least 3/4 of max.. Mine is probably around 80%.

If I end up giving settings I must say that the tuner I'm running is an ATI TV Wonder Pro. Specific settings would relate to that card but would be likely to find similar settings on yours.

By the way, what tuner card do you have and what sound card? Not saying it would be the same with your setup but on mine, ATI TV Wonder Pro, ATI Radeon 9200, ATI Remote Wonder, Soundblaster Live 24 bit, everything works fine. However, if I was running an Audiology 2 card I would have to download a patch.

TV Tuner Card and Sound Card Info

Hi! Thanks for your replies. Both my sound card and my tv tuner card are bought off ebay.

    Sound Card:
CMI 8738 PCI Sound Card 6 channel *It's all it says on the box*

    TV Tuner Card:
Super TV Tuner w/ FM *No model #*

I checked all the drivers that are installed under my sound devices. One of them named MPEG, TV, WDM Audio Capture is enabled but does not have any drivers installed. I figured the driver must be in one of the CDs provided with the TV tuner card or the sound card but turned out it wasn't there. So, I decided to just uninstall it and I think I did the wrong thing. And before uninstalling it, I tried to Troubleshoot feature. It gave me some options to configure it and tried one of them. It directed me to check my volume adjustment. But when I tried to locate my volume adjuster, this message popped up:
There is a problem with your sound hardware. To install mixer devices, go to Control Panel, click Printers and Other Hardware, and then click Add Hardware.
But I do have a mixer installed (It shows in my system tray). I was even able to adjust the volumes. But it still gives me the same warning. I can play CD and other music on my computer but I'm just not hearing anything when I try to watch TV on my pc.
By the way, I installed a fresh Windows XP Pro on my computer because I thought it would fix the problem

You can have the mixer icon in the tray but still have a problem with audio.

Check your control panel under sound/media and see that the default devices for different features are all set to the audio card.

Also, if the main board also has sound on it be sure that it is disabled.

Glad to be of assistance and thankyou for letting us know the problem is solved.

Once you think of it... If have the processor and video card to back the tuner, and the tuner is capable, you can hook a VCR up to the input of the tuner card and put all those VHS tapes ya have, or probably do, over to DVD if you have a DVD burner. :D
