i have windows server 2003 installed and use it as a workstation. right now i am logged in as the administrator and have few programs running such as windows media player and msn messenger. however, when i try and remotely connect to this account from another computer outside of the house, i get the same desktop, documents etc. but the programs that were running at home such as msn, are not running now. Is there any way to connect into the same session (i dont know if thats the right word) so i can continue using msn without having to re log in, or any other programs i had left running on my computer when i was at home?I used to do this all the time from windows xp pro, so im just wondering if there is a small fix or something.

    HUmMmM...

I think what you want to do is interact with your session! Right?
You are using remote desktop so the session that you will see is another session and not the console session. Using the Terminal Services Manager, you can control another Terminal Services session remotely. However, you cannot interact with the console from the Terminal Services Manager.
Butt try this article support from MS here

There are 3rd party tools to connect remotly to another computer and interact with the session like DAMEWARE.
See the logmein.com site as well.
Try to do it with security like ssl or vpn or another way...

If you want to view a session that is already active on Windows Server, all you have to do is bring up the Task Manager by ctrl-alt-del, or right clicking on the task bar and clicking Task Manager. Click the Users Tab and it will show you a list of users that are currently logged onto that computer. Right Click on the user session you want to control and click connect.

You MUST know the users password to connect to the session.
The user (if at the terminal) will see their screen go to Locked status so its not like you can do this ninja style.
I am not sure if you would be able to connect to a session that does not have remote access rights even though they have local logon rights, my initial guess is you cant do that.

All administrator Accounts AUTOMATICALLY have remote access rights if you enable Remote Desktop Protocol/Procedure. They dont have to be listed.

Windows Server 2003 will allow you to connect to the console sessionn - which is rather useful in the scenario you described.

from your Windows XP system, go to >

START > RUN> and then type

    mstsc /v:serverName /console

there is a catch - only one person can "own" the console session at a time.

so, if someone is sitting at the 2003 server and you do this, it will lock the desktop on them.

    Best regards
