I'm connected to work thru a VPN connect and then I'm executing a telnet application that allows me to listen to a voice file and at the same time type in what I'm hearing into a file on the server. When I do this over the phone lines everything works fine but when I do it over my internet connection my typing hesitates and I will have to stop to allow the typing to catch up. I have no problem with the voice or the connect to the server. Other users have trouble occassionally with voice but not typing. Is there any setting on windows XP that would cause this? If not What could cause this? I have shutdown all un needed applications. All suggestions are appreciated.

It might help to get the ball rolling on this post if you supplied the name of the applcation. I, personally, have never used anything along what I imagine your asking about (some type of personal voice/dictation application) but was always curious how and if these applications work well.

    application type

The setup is a combination of three programs. The first is citrix VPN client. no problems connecting but occassional problems with disconnecting. the second application is a dictiphone software that controls the voice and foot pedal. no problems with this software. the third piece of software is a telnet application that connects to the server and allows typing of reports onto the server. I have uninstalled the keyboard drivers and reinstalled them and then I uninstalled the three applications and reinstalled from scratch. None of this has helped the behavior.

    Sorry no immediate cure ..
Their are allot of dynamics occurring in this job process, two of them involving remote communications which can be a tough nut to crack.
Continue the search, but consider other options. Explore the possibility of downloading the raw files to your computer. With files stored on your local computer, transcription can begin with no interference. After file(s) have been transcribed, they can be uploaded to the server. Both download and upload processes can be automatic background job request set to meet required time constraints. My former business required "timely" information from 13 remote locations. The cost and energy to maintain a dynamic link was attainable, but the economics and simplicity with file transfers was a bargain. The success is determining the trigger .. when and what determines the transfer of "timely" files.

    Hi Bill,
I was actually seeking the proper names of the software you using. While I may not know much about what you are asking for, I am rather good at using search engines and seeking others personal experiences and any workarounds for bugs, peeves or problems that has been found to resolve such. All I need is a starting point and generally, what I don't know now, I can learn or pick up along the way. No promises, of course, because what I can come up with depends on those "search engine "/ "support site" results and how much of the problems are going to based on the individual specific users computer specs ie; devices (versions of co-application devices), memory and habits for computer maintenance. Based on the description of what you are doing I can see a large potential for problems coming from a great many areas, most of which may possibly be ironed out by a tweak or two, or as previously pointed out, finding (through experimentation), a work around or better method for doing what your doing.

The software for typing into is call meditech remote workstations. The software for the voice is called transnet and then the VPN software is from cisco systems.
