running windows xp when dialed in to the internet and the connection drops i can't click on the icon of the 2 computers in the systray to close the connection it just blinks on the screen and blinks off. i have to shutdown the system and restart. also don't see anything in task manager that i could shutdown so i could avoid a restart

i should have mentioned i don't want to auto close the connection. i guess what really happens is i seem to lose the conection yet the modem is still connected and i can't close this down by right clicking on the icon of the 2 pc's in systray. also doing a control-alt-delete there are no programs running under the program tab.

Take another look at that other thread to which I linked. Try Zephyr's suggestion and, if that doesn't work, post the information which I requested in my note.

Also, it would do no harm to make sure that you have the most recent drivers installed for your modem.
