    I gave my old computer to a friend and she was putting spyware on it and the computer is now asking for the registration number. I have no idea what it is. How do I find out?

    While I suspect the registration number being asked for is for the spyware software (because I can't think of any reason why installing software, other than win98 once again, would require the win98 product key) but....

    win98 product key is stored in the registry and you can access this, write down the number, preferably with a permanent marker on the actual CD, for future reference should an occasion ever occur when you actually have to reinstall [clean] win98 again.

    =====How-To=============
    *click startmenu
    *click run
    *type in the runline, regedit
    *Open the each Folder and subfolder mentioned below: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
    \SOFTWARE
    \Microsoft
    \Windows
    \CurrentVersion
    *On the right hand side or pane there is a key named "ProductID ". Directly to the right of this is a 20 digit number with slashes. This is your win98 registration number, or the number you needed and used when you installed win98 and the same number you will need again should you clean install, again. Write it down and put it in a safe place.

    ==============
    If this is in deed the spyware program requesting it's registration number, that would depend on the software product name, where the application came from and the procedure they used (or require as part of the install) to supply this number. These factors would need to known. If you know what the name of the program is, perhaps further information can given.
