What happens when you right click on the DeskTop and select New->Shortcut and then create a new shortcut to My Docs?

    My Docs on Desktop

Have you looked to see if the default setting is still checked?

In Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, View, Advanced settings: window, "Show My Documents on the Desktop" needs to be checked.
