Windows took it's trademark dump, and i'm left with the pieces to put back together. Previously there was netscape 4.7, so i have the entire Users folder sittin' here on my backup drive. How would i go about importing/converting whatever to get the emails, and/or settings out. unfortunately i don't know the server stuff. well. the server address probably can't be too hard. it's the username and password and what not that i might have him setup again. but how do i go about saving the mail, filtering it (i love TB's junk mail filter) and filing it away. I'm trying to get this computer tip top before giving it back to my dad. This is another spyware victim, and it was hard enough convincing him to let me do this much. i'd like to, at least, get everything back to normal.

    Welcome to the Forum, burden!

    burden,

You can get the appropriate server information for email from your Dad's ISP web page, or give them a call, and they will give you that info.

To move the messages from the 4.x Users folder to the Thunderbird Mail Account Folder, all that is necessary, is to move the files in the 4.x Mail folder without the SNM extension to the Thunderbird Mail Account folder, e.g., Inbox, Sent, Templates, etc. If there are subfolders, then you will also want to copy those folders. They will have an SBD extension. Open the SBD folders, and delete all files with an SNM extension.

If Mail has been received in the Thunderbird Mail Account, then in order not to overwrite the existing Mail, rename the 4.x mail files to: OldInbox, OldSent, etc., before moving them to Thunderbird.

    Also copy these files:
    bookmark.htm - change the name to bookmarks.html
    cookies.txt
    custom.dic - Dictionary
Export the Address Book as an LDIF file.

Thunderbird can import Netscape Mail, but can only import the address book if you exported it as an LDIF file, from Communicator.

Let us know if you have further questions.
