I have been getting "The page cannot be displayed" while going from page to page. Some times if I clear cache page will load, alot of the time I have to close explorer and reopen. It doesn't time out but displays message at click. Some time I get "action canceled" I use adaware, spybot, norton internet security, and spyware blaster. Any ideas what could cause the problem? Thanks for your help. I have attached a hijack this log:

    Hi,
I am not one of the qualified Hijack Log readers so I must pass on my opinion for it but recently I had a similiar problem and when I checked my IP address I noticed it was not the norm. I then noticed my "modem" went from a couple of lights to all lights flashing, not normal. I have Windows Xp (Home Edition) with a external cable modem. I replaced the modem with a more updated one and after a few kinks were ironed out, my problem corrected itself. I no longer get "The page can not be displayed" message" with "cannot find server in the upper left hand corner "...For starters can you check your IP Address and see what it says ???

I see nothing bad in the log, I do have a couple of recommendations. Remove these two items. They are totally unnecessary.

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [TkBellExe] "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exe" -osboot
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE" -atboottime

Rename C:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\Realsched.Exe to Realsched.Old and it will not appear in the startup the next time Realplayer runs.

You may want to try this method to clear out your cache in a way not possible while windows is running. Restart in Dos Mode, and then do these commands at the prompt, pressing Enter at the end of each. The first command will appear to do nothing.
    smartdrv
    deltree c:\windows\cookies
    deltree c:\windows\history
    deltree c:\windows\temp
    deltree c:\windows\tempor~1

Type a Y that you want to delete, check for typos at this time. When done, reboot the computer, and those folders will be rebuilt clean.

Would you be by chance be using a HOSTS file?

Thank you for your help. I don't know if I'm using a hosts file. Is there a way that I can check?
    Thanks

    Hello shammie,

    I don't know if I'm using a hosts file.
By default, the OS comes with a Hosts file. What that looks like:
The standard defualt Hosts should look like this:
    # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp.
    #
    # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
    #
    # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
    # entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
    # be placed in the first column followed by the corresponding host name.
    # The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
    # space.
    #
    # Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
    # lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
    #
    # For example:
    #
    # 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
    # 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

    127.0.0.1 localhost

Located in \Windows\Hosts - opens with Notepad.

Many people use the Hosts to block Domains - .com addresses, what that looks like:
    127.0.0.0 localhost
    127.0.0.1 and.doxdesk.com
    127.0.0.2 auditmypc.com
    127.0.0.69 www.grc.com
    127.0.0.70 www.grisoft.com
    127.0.0.110 www.webattack.com
    127.0.0.111 www.wilders.org

127.0.0.1 is an IP address called the "loopback" because it refers to the local computer only. The loopback address gives developers a way to test web software without being physically connected to a network. This prevents errors in network hardware or software from obscuring test results. The loopback address can be used to stop web ads from displaying.

    Regards - Charles
