I am using Thunderbird Mail client, and now I am no longer receiving
the new mail alert icon in the tray area which notifys me that new
mail has arrived. It is so strange that the mail icon that shows new
mail has arrived used to show up when I had mail come in, but
for several days now some it has stopped alerting me to new mail.
I have NOT changed any settings either so I am not sure why I
am no longer getting the mail alert icon.

In the Options and Mail Preferences, I have it set to
    1. Check for new messages every 10 minutes
    2. Automatically download new mail
    3. When new message arrives ---Show an alert.

Usually always, I have the mail client open and minimized in my
taskbar area so it should show new mail arriving as it has always done.

Can anyone help with getting this fixed so that Thunderbird
shows the mail alert when my new mail arrives?
Is there a setting or something that needs to be changed or
added to the prefs file etc to make the new mail alert icon work again.

    TIA.

I never pay any attention to that but, if you have selected in Options|General| to show and hear alert, it should work. I know that it works when I first open mail. How about you. I don't care about following mail because 90% of the time it is Spam. I actually have the Bugs Bunny sound, but I cannot tell if this happen s regularly or not.

Thanks Westside, Now it's working again. The new mail icon showed up earlier this evening to notify me of new mail I had. Dunno why it quit working and started again, but it has so I'm a happy camper once again. :) I don't get much spam at my private ISP address. I have a hotmail address that I give out for that purpose so as to keep my personal one clean and free of garbage if I can.

    Thanks for your help.

Good in every way. I was doomed when I selected a very obvious username with AOL, and, I thought that it was so convenient that my cable ISP could accept the same username. I don't have AOL, and my present cable ISP carried on the same username as before. And, that being the primary username, it cannot be changed, unless the account is closed, etc. So, I am stuck with a considerable amount of Junk mail, although my cable spam controls handle about 95% of the Junk. It is relentless. That's why I don't care to have anything warning me, because a voluntary twice daily check is more than enough.
But, having at least five addresses set up, the alerts are meaningless. They say that I have two new e-mail for an address of my wife. But, she has three, with a spam e-mail at another address. I guess that those Alert are ok for people with a single account.
