    More AUBrowse info

The AUBrowse window just did it's pop-up thing. I opened the Task Manager window and right clicked on AUBrowse in the list and selected "Go To Process ". It gave me a file named DSBrws.exe. When I closed the AUBrowse window, DSBrws.exe left the Process list.

I did a search to find out where this was in my computer and came up with 2 finds:

    C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSBrws.exe Size:278KB Type:Application Date Modified:8/3/2004 (this is when I purchased my Dell Inspiron 9100)

    C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch\DSBRWS.exe-070367AA.pf size:67KB Type:pF File Date Modified:7/1/2005 (last date the AUBrowse window poped-up - today)

Thinking this might have some lagitimate reason to be on my Dell, I clicked on my Dell Support icon in the tray and selected Security. The window went blank, but it did have a label of "Check Now" with the Dell icon in the tray. I opened the Task Manager again and right clicked "Check Now" and selected "Go To Process" - - - it gave me the same file name: DSBwrs.exe. I selected "End Task" and the blank window closed.

    Does this help any ???

 Interesting. Since I have a Dell dimension 8400 and the same program DSBwrs.exe. It's gotta be something related to the Dell support programs.

    Afarro,

Good work Leanna! If I were guessing, I'd say DSBrws.exe is short for Dell Support Browser. Go to start>run and type msconfig then hit enter. On the startup tab, uncheck the entry for the Dell Support Agent.

    C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe

    Exit and allow restart.

    Delete the files in bold.

    C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall*.exe
    C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_38.exe

Open My Computer and right click the C: drive, then choose properties. Click Disk Cleanup and check all boxes except 'compress old files', then click OK.

You should disable then re-enable system restore. Right click My Computer and choose properties. Select System Restore tab and check the box to turn off. OK out and reboot, then uncheck the box.

Let us know if the popups stop.

You also need to unzip HijackThis to a folder of it's own, like C:\HJT and post a new log.

:) Finalmente!. I removed the DSBbrws.exe program from the auto-start list and I haven't had any Aubrowse for 2 days.

I'm trying to do as you instructed but have a few questions.
After I unchecked C:\Program Files\Dell Support\DSAgnt.exe from the msconfig startup list and restarted, a window told me to go back and check Normal Start-up on the General tab in msconfig. I did, then out of curiosity, I looked at the start-up list and CSAgant was checked. Do I need to do anything else there?

    I deleted:
    C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninstall6_38.exe
There is a C:\WINDOWS\NDNuninst.exe file. Should I do anything to it?

When I went to disable system restore, I found the Turn off System Restore box unchecked. Should I check it and restart?

    Here's another HJT log:

    Yes, delete NDNuninst.exe

Scan again with HijackThis, place a check next to the following entries and click fix.

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

    Close HijackThis

Check the box to turn off System Restore.

Uncheck the entry for DSAgnt.exe in msconfig, click OK and allow restart. Upon reboot you will be greeted with a message window from the System Configuration Utility. Check the box not to use and don't show, then click OK. You do not want to go back to normal startup!

Now uncheck the box to turn off System Restore.

Let us know if the popups stop.

    If it's not one thing it's another . . .

I have done what you instructed. No AUBrowse pop-ups today, BUT I did get the dreaded Blue Stop Error Screen. I was away from the computer and not running anything overtly at the time so I have no clue why it showed up. My e-mail program does check for new e-mails every 10 minutes, but other than that, nothing was running that I know of.

    Here's the Technical information:
    *** STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0xB2EDA2B7, 0xB27F191c, 0x00000000)
    *** SYMEVENT.SYS- Address B2EDA2B7 base at B2ECF000, DateStamp 4272844c

I sent a report to Dell since I am under warrentee. It could take them days to respond. Can you tell me if this might relate to the AUBrowse situation? Do I need to go to a different forum to ask this?

    Thank you

It's been 3 months and my system has been problem free. No more AUBrowse windows. I have no idea what caused the Blue Screen, but that has not happened again either. Thank you for all your help! :)
