    Hi All -

About two days ago my e-mail program (OE6) just quit sending mail. I can receive mail just fine but I can not send it. I am getting the following error message whenever I try to 'send': "An unknown error has occurred. Protocol: SMTP, Port: 0, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800C012E "

As far as I know nothing has changed in my settings. I did, however, delete the account in OE and re-do it in an effort to fix the problem. No change. I have tried disabling my firewall and that didn't work, either.

Can someone tell me what the above error message refers to and what I might do to fix it?

    I am running Win98SE, IE/OE 6, MailWasher Pro 5.0 and eTrust EZ Armor 2005.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated. TIA :)

    Hi Mike

It is possible that your Outbox folder is corrupt - search your drive for outbox.dbx and delete it (with OE closed). OE will recreate the folder when next started.

Another possible solution which I have used successfully in the past is to create a new network connection to the ISP.

Do not simply make a copy of the existing connection, but use the New Connection Wizard to enter the data and make a new connection.

If these suggestions don't resolve the problem see ....

    Error Number: 0x800C012E

This MS KB article refers to the same solution, albeit for OE 5, but worth checking.

    Hi Pete -

Thanks for the post. Your link to "Error Number: 0x800c012e" did the trick. Most notably -
After changing the attributes to "Archive" in all of the DBX files I am able to send mail again. :D

Thanks again. The WindowsBBS community never ceases to amaze me with its collective knowledge and willingness to help the "disadvantaged ", like me. :)

Glad to be of assistance :) Wonder how the dbx files inherited the Read only attribute in the first place - guess that's one of Window's little mysteries!

Beats me how or what changed it but, if it ever happens again, I'm prepared to do battle with it. Thanks again, Pete.
