I Had To Do A Soft Recovery Yesterday, And After That, I Couldn't Open Netscape. I Downloaded And Re-installed Netscape 7.1 And 7.2
(several Times) But Neither Program Will Open. I Once Got A Message
Saying ' Opening Portal Not Found' Or Words To That Effect. Anyone Got Any Suggestions? This Matters Only Because All My Emails Are In Netscape. Thanks

    Welcome to the Forum, GeorgeAllan!

    GeorgeAllan,

When you uninstalled Netscape 7.1, did you also delete the GRE folder? The folder is located here:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\mozilla.org\GRE\1.4f_2003062408

Once again, I would uninstall Netscape, whichever Version you now have installed, and delete the GRE folder, which most likely has two subfolders now:
    1.4f_2003062408
    1.7.2_2004080415

Next, delete the Netscape folder located here:
    C:\Program Files\Netscape\Netscape
If you have plugins you may wish to save the plugins folder before deleting the Netscape folder.

    Now REBOOT THE PC

You are ready to reinstall the browser. The "clean install" should recognize your Profile, which contains your email.

I would suggest backing up your Profiles folder before you begin the above process.

Let us know if you have further problems.

    Ramona

Before I do what you suggest, I need to know where to find my Profiles folder.
You're right about there now being two subfolders in GRE.
    Thanks
    George

You should not have to worry about your profile(s) , but the link will give all possibilities, for future reference. Remember the rule: one or more profiles/version. Never two versions/profile.

Thanks for the info about finding my profile location.
This has illuminated another problem I am having.
When I changed the setting to view hidden files, another folder "Default Owner'
now appears in Docs&Settings. Before I did the recovery, I had about 10Gb of free space on my 40GB hd. After the recover, I am down to 2GB. Guess where the extra data is hidden - Right - 'default owner'. I have the following folders in
docs&settings: Admiistrator, Administrator.George, All Users, Default Owner(hidden), and Owner. All my data is in Owner. Is it safe to delete the others or do they serve some useful purpose?
    Thanks for the help.
    George
PS. This is the second soft recovery I've had to do in 6 months Does this sound suspicious?

I have over 51GB of my original 80 GB. In doc and settings I have less than 7GB, of which most of the them are in my Name folder. The Default User, in contrast has about 4 MB, the vast majority IE stuff. This does not surprise me since I barely use IE. It is safe to delete Temp files, as well as Temp. Internat files, which are IE's. I have a considerable amount of Music Files. But I would not remove any of the folders.

    Thank you , Ramona!
Following your advice, I now have my Netscape and emails back again.
    But now I have a new(old) problem.
My email folder is now being 'processed' again.
I did as previously recommended, deleted all .MSF files in my mail folder.
That worked for one message (out of 7 on my server), then 'processing' again.
Went back and re-deleted all .msf files again, got one more message and then 'processing folder' again.
    Got any more suggestions, anyone?
    Thanks
    George

Did you read the second part of this? That link is quite good. Deting the .msf file should do the job, in most cases, but there are some e-mails which can be deleted only at the ISP website. It is, usually, some sticky spam.

    Proceesing Mail Folder

    Hi Westside
I went and deleted all the .msf files for the third time and then got all my emails off the server at once, so hopefully, that has done the trick. I'll save the link you sent in case the problem re-occurs.
    Thanks again
    George
