I know exactly what ya mean and agree. In fact I made such a decision with my Asus board. Since my mobo was out and also RAM was suspect I bought both board and RAM. I got PC-3200 even though I can't take advantage of it with my Athalon processor. Did it as my next upgrade will be to an Athalon XP which will take advantage of the RAM.

I just, if a customer gives a budget, to do all that's possible to stay within it. Although there is almost always a "But if you went this way..." in there. :)

The new Mobo arrived, got everything mounted up and installed and it works like a champ. The only thing I had to do was drop the stated speed of the CPU down below what the Bios had it set up for. I`m running ME, same as which I don`t like at all.
Thanks for all the good help.
I`m going to start a thread over in, XP and find out what I can do with the XP I own now and have installed on this computer, as far as installing it on my new rig is concerned.

Since, if I remember correctly, you bought mobo and video that I recommended, I am SOOOOOOOOOoooooooooo glad it went well for you!!!! :D

And just remember that what you now have is ready to update to faster memory and stronger processor if you ever want to beef it up more. :)

Yeah, Jay, and I appreciate it. I found out what I needed to know about reusing X3 by reading, and searching.
I now have a pretty good "daily driver" computer that I`m using now, and this newer one to play with and get ready to use.
Next project, I`ve never partitioned a hard drive, I`m going to split the 120 GB that`s on the Asus into 4 drives. I`ve accumulated quite a bit of information on how to do it and the nice thing about it is, if I foul it up I can back up and start over. ;)

On the partitioning just remember that once you partition your not done. You need to go back and format each partition.

    P.S. on last post...

It feels pretty darn good to be able to say that I didn't just go out and buy this thing. I got the stuff and built it myself. Dosen't it?? As Dr. Frankenstein would say... "It LIVES!!!!!" :D
