HJT log and a couple questions

I would appreciate some assistance with my HJT log. Here is a little background on the situation. This is on my kids' system, so I'll mention what I know. First of all, it's running Win XP Home with cable Internet service. Biggest complaint is that the Internet is running slower then normal. While running Firefox and searching for answers, I noticed a pop up box right above the clock. If I click on it, the IE browser will open the ad in the pop up. I have a file (happyxml.exe) that if I disable, the pop ups stop. I can not find anything on that file. I find that file in my Prefetch folder. I assume it's safe to delete that, correct? Any ideas as to what that is? I also have a folder named "Netgroup - Politecnico di Torino ". Any thoughts on that?

I run my Norton AV program and it shows one infected file. That file is windec32.dll and it's associated with Adware.SearchMall. The problem is that I can't find that file on my system. Yes, I have it set to show hidden files. So where is this file? I then run Panda's ActiveScan and it finds 4 items. They are MyWebSearch, FunWeb, IPInsight, and PopCapLoader. I delete the files associated with the first two, but I'm not sure about the next two. The file for IPInsight is alchem.ini and PopCapLoader has popcaploader.dll and popcaploader.inf. Can these be safely deleted through Windows Explorer?

I ran TrendMicro's Anti-Spyware and it found nothing. I updated and ran Ad-Aware. No critical items found. I updated Spyware Blaster, ran scandisk and defrag. Last, but not least, I ran Panda again and three things are found. The files for the IPInsight and PopCapLoader are still there. The other two items are gone, so it appears. The browsing speed seems to be pretty good right now, but I know those other item are still there. Any help getting rid of those would be greatly appreciated! Here is my HJT log:

That is strange, PopCap is targeted by TrendMicro. That is a game website, and I haven't noticed anything going strange with my friend who frequents the site. Then again I locked her system good against things for her, but nothing against their website.

It is safe to delete all files in the Prefetch folder. The purpose of those files is to speed up loading programs, and if everything is deleted new ones will be created as you use your programs and during bootup.

This is your big problem I see in the log.
C:\WINDOWS\system32\agentsvr.exe
The legit folder for that file is C:\Windows\Msagent.

Remove this using HJT.

Reboot and delete that file.

Would that be IPinsight or IP InSight? You'll see what I mean at this page, it has removal instructions.

Thanks. I let HJT remove the entry that you mentioned. I also deleted the folder. I deleted all items in my Prefetch folder. The bug that I mentioned was IPInsight, not IP InSight. According to the link you mentioned, Spybot S&D would take care of that. I install Spybot and let it do what it needed to. It fixed about 115 items, mostly cookies. Strange that I didn't see IPInsight there. Do you know what "Netgroup - Politecnico di Torino" is? Should I leave the PopCapLoader files alone for now? I still have the alchem.ini file in my Windows folder. Should I delete that? I appreciate your continued help!

I just completed my weekly "cleanup" on my system. Everything came back clean with the exception of the windec32.dll file that Norton's finds. I was able to locate the file this time. It was in a zip file that I had saved. I deleted the file and rescanned. This time, nothing was found. A good sign indeed.

I'm still curious as to what this folder is: Netgroup - Politecnico di Torino.

Your log is clean.
You could remove popcap, it will just be reloaded at the next visit there, and I don't think they are dangerous.

That appears to be Italian, and something to do with education. This google search may give you an idea or two.

Thanks Mark. I did a Google search on that Italian Netgroup folder also, but I didn't see anything I thought my kids would have used. Kids and extra eductaion? I don't think so. I guess I can just remove it and see if anyone complains.
