Hello All and thanks for your help in advance!!

I have been reading through the posts, but didn't find my an answer for my problem:

Ok, two desktops (one running XP, the other ME). Laptop is running Win2000.

    1) Laptop "sees" both desktops.

    2) Desktop running ME can "see" Desktop XP in the same "group" as itself, but "sees" Laptop in a different group.

    3) Desktop XP can't see the Laptop nor the Desktop using ME.

Did I mention that I hate MS? LOL!

    Any help would be appreciated.

The easiest way is to go to the XP machine. Start / Control Panel.
    Switch to Classic View
Click on "Network Setup Wizard "
Run the wizard and it will generate a floppy to run on the other machines.

Try pinging the various machines using the IP address and then the "computer name ". If IP works and name does not not, then you have name resolution issues. Otherwise, check that the IP information is consistent and that firewalls are not blocking the traffic.

For name resolution, try modifying the LMHOSTS file (C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc) to include the names and addresses of all systems on the LAN. Make sure that the file name is LMHOSTS with NO extension. There is a file named LMHOSTS.SAM (sample). You could use this by renaming it without the extension.

I made the disk and attempted to use it on the laptop containing Win2K, but an error message was generated stating that the setup disk can only be used with Win98, ME, XP.

However, after a little tinkering, all the computers can "see" each other, but ME can't access the laptop because the laptop is asking for a password (inwhich I never assigned a password to the laptop).
